The Manager - Analytical Sciences & Laboratory Quality Systems manages a team that determines how to apply analytical science to move basic research forward to commercialization and ensure all data collected from laboratories, internal and external, is accurate precise and reliable. This position is responsible for the development of new technologies, providing analytical expertise in accelerating research, methods development, test methods transfer, factory laboratory support, laboratory equipment selection, laboratory construction, laboratory quality systems management, analyst proficiency testing, laboratory competency training development and the competitive technical insights program. Background This position is one of two management roles that make up the Global Analytical Innovation Team (GAIT) at Wrigley/Mars gum and confectionery division. The Global Analytical Innovation Team (GAIT) function creates and sustains competitive advantage for Wrigley/Mars gum and confectionery division through the application of strategies to bring the highest quality product to the consumer, while maintaining and improving manufacturing and distribution costs.. GAIT develops implements and evaluates quality systems to support the business objectives of Wrigley/Mars by providing strategic direction, technical standards, support, implementation and training to internal client groups. The Global Analytical Innovation Team collaborates with customers and suppliers to integrate quality methods with external laboratories, customer and vendor systems to ensure appropriate customer service. The Laboratory is responsible for the development and implementation of all new and improved products for the gum and confectionery division worldwide.
Dimensions The Manager - Analytical Services reports to the Director- GQ-COE, This position has 7 direct reports which consist of Sr. Chemists and Chemists. The position is accountable for directing analytical activities for the R&D functions which support R&D Engineering, R&D Research and Quality Assurance initiatives requiring analytical data collection and interpretation. The Manager works globally to provide guidance and analytical expertise to the global factories and their associated laboratories. This position is also charged with development of laboratory strategies for the business which allow us to economically ensure proper management of food safety and quality of our materials and finished products. Principal Activities 1. Accountable for leading and coaching staff in support of development methods, R&D projects and factory support functions. 2. Accountable for determining analytical manpower forecast to support projects and identify external methods development partners as needed.3. Direct Quality Assurance activities as applicable to the GAIT labs, external and factory laboratories.4. Establish and evaluate global laboratory network (scope to be determined) in the Americas, Europe and Asia, including establishing procedures, recommendations regarding staffing, staff training, selection and budgeting for equipment, for example GC, HPLC, Karl Fischer Moisture and particle sizing equipment. Act as quality resource for factories and their laboratories worldwide.5. Acts as a mentor/guide for direct reports with regard to all aspects of quality management, including methodology, review, implementation and corrective action planning and execution.6. Ensure that the laboratories effectively support new product development, including ingredient testing and qualification as determined by standards and research and development specifications and prototype testing.7. Oversee selection and/or design of specific research testing methodologies, and selection of the proper laboratory equipment necessary to conduct effective laboratory research. Oversee development of innovative testing and laboratory equipment use to provide needed data.8. Ensure laboratory adherence to customer, product and ingredient requirements in order to assure the Company's ability to market globally, in accordance with international standards.9. Oversee and direct establishment of a document control system for methods, ISO, lab safety and GMP documentation.10. Transition GAIT laboratory to ISO 17025 certification and ensure applicable external lab quality systems are maintained. Define appropriate quality management systems requirements for factory, external and regional R&D laboratory locations.11. Participate as Wrigley Company technical liaison in pharmaceutical company partnerships for the manufacture of products such as dietary supplements, ensuring test and release per GMP standards.12. Act as technical resource in product problems resulting from consumer complaints; advise and support Consumer Complaint Specialist, Consumer Affairs and Law Department as required to manage liability.13. Direct audits of third party laboratories that perform testing for the Company to ensure compliance with all applicable requirements. Trains additional staff to enable adequate internal ability to audit; may participate in audits as appropriate.14. Maintain a thorough understanding of the most current laboratory quality initiatives and methodologies through participation in professional organizations, seminars and individual education efforts.15. Accountable for the effective management of all laboratories staff; reviews and approves personal and professional development plans for staff. Manages training/safety program for the laboratory staff.16. Model, inspire, motivate and direct others on Wrigley's values and Leadership Behaviors17. Performs special projects at the request of the Director, or other members of senior management.

Requirements |
